Buckthorn Clearing 2019
Another incremental step to eradicate buckthorn in Glenmore Woods will continue on the week of February 11, 2019 in conjunction with the Lake County Forest Preserve. The board voted to clear the buckthorn in the area shaded in red in the diagram. The area totals about 6.7 acres. We chose this area based on our budget and aesthetic appeal. The Lake County Forest Preserve will be working with a contractor to do this clearing.
Clearing involves the red area of all invasive trees and shrubs is almost always the first step to restoring a site. Sites that have not been managed over the years will always have woody invasive growth, most commonly buckthorn and honeysuckle, shading out the herbaceous layer. These species both block out sunlight, which does not allow any other plants or trees to grow, as well as become so dense that it renders the area unusable.

North Shore Gas Sewer Inspection
During the week of October 29th, you might have seen contractors around the neighborhood. North Shore Gas was supposed to deliver letters to all residents in Glenmore Woods, but quick poll would suggest that no homeowners received this letter, which can be found here.
It states that North Shore Gas previously upgraded the natural gas pipes in Glenmore Woods. A trenchless digging technology was used to install the new pipes to minimize disruptions to streets, parkways, sidewalks and lawns. The contractors are checking sewer lines in Glenmore Woods as a precaution. In most cases, the contractors can inspect from the street, but might need to gain access into homes to complete the inspection. Feel free to call 312-800-3280 with questions or concerns.

Buckthorn Clearing 2018
Another incremental step to eradicate buckthorn in Glenmore Woods will continue on February 7, 2018 after taking a hiatus in 2017 due to the felling of dead trees as a result of the Emerald Ash Borer. The board voted to clear the buckthorn from Area 1, 2.5 acres of buckthorn. We chose Area 1 based on our budget and aesthetic appeal. Native Restorations has been contracted to clear Area 1 in the late winter or early spring of 2018.
Clearing involves Area 1 of all invasive trees and shrubs is almost always the first step to restoring a site. Clearing Felled Trees Saturday January 13, 2018
After the removal of the hazardous tree removal in the winter of 2017, there were some areas that had more felled trees than others which required some clearing. There was no funding in the budget after the felling of the hazardous trees, as a result of our neighborhood devastated by the Emerald Ash Borer, which wiped out nearly all the Ash trees. We contracted in 2018 to clear the worst areas after the felling of the hazardous trees, which include:

The clearing will start, weather permitting, on January 13th, 2018.
